Mexican Food and Type 2 Diabetes

“I have type 2 diabetes and love Mexican food. Could you give me some tips on what to order at my favorite Mexican restaurant?”

The biggest tip for ordering Mexican food would be to try and keep the carbohydrates down. Also having a higher protein and fat amount in the meal this will help to keep the blood glucose level from spiking as high. So instead of a burrito try doing carne asada, also maybe only eat half of the rice and beans that come with dish,or opt for maybe fajita vegetables.
Although you can have a burrito if that is what your truly craving but maybe instead of eating it all ,eat only half. Just try to minimize carbohydrates where you can so if you eat the burrito, maybe do not eat the rice. A general rule of thumb to use is, that if you decide to eat out remeber that you should use it as a treat, and not think you have to deny yourself food, but keep a concious effort not to self endulge. So perhaps eat only half your meal or as stated previously cut the carbohydrates down where you can.
